Hours: The library is open from 7:30 through a half hour after school. We are open at nutrition and lunch.
Circulation: Students may check out up to 3 books for 2 weeks at a time, and must show their ID at time of check out. There is a fine of 10¢ per day for overdue books. Teachers may check out books for a semester, and should clear their records by the end of the semester.
Library Staff: Teacher librarian, Meredith Reu, has a teaching credential in art, English, history and a credential for library services. She also holds an M.A. in Art.
Library Volunteers: We are grateful to the parents and community members who volunteer in Nobel’s library. We invite others interested in assisting in the library to contact Ms. Reu.
Library Calendar: The library calendar is available for viewing by clicking on ‘Calendar’ in the menu bar of the Nobel website and selecting ‘Choose calendars to view’. Teachers may sign up for the library in person, by phone at ext. 566 or 773.4758, or by emailing the teacher librarian at meredith.reu@lausd.net.
Admittance: During class time students need a library pass in order to visit the library. There is a limit of 5 students on passes per teacher per period. Students do not need a pass to visit the library during their free time.
Library Technology: The library is a classroom that can be used by the entire school. We have forty laptop computers which allow students access to online reference materials. We instruct students in the use of LAUSD's Digital Library and its invaluable curriculum-related databases. Also available in the library is a Smartboard, an interactive teaching tool for integrating research skills into the curriculum. The teacher librarian is available to collaborate with teachers in implementing lessons using this state-of-the-art technology.
